As much as new it sounds, let me tell you- This term has been in the industry for 20 years!

YET, it is one of the most miss defined and miss understood concepts of marketing.

Common Misconceptions About Content Strategy

1) It is a means to achieve all your business goals

2) It is only about creating content

3) It is only relevant to digital mediums

People say the content strategy is a means to achieve your business goals through content.

Now, this is true. But not completely true.

If you are someone who is trying to achieve all your business goals through content only then, you are someone who is trying to achieve your fitness goals through only exercise or only diet.

Only diet or, only exercise is not enough- Similarly, your content can not be a jack of all trades for your business.

Honestly, it is not your fault if you think like that.

But then,

What is content strategy?

Let’s break the term to make it easier-

Content is Communication and the strategy is how you plan to communicate.

In other words, it is coordinated and calculated business communication.

So curating a content strategy is not only about creating content.

It involves managing content throughout its life cycle. It includes positioning, alignment with the company’s core, content production, publishing, analysis and even repurposing.

Let me put it simply-

Step 1: What do you want to say?

First things first, you decide the objective of creating content? It works as an anchor to your content marketing practice, as well as, give you a head start.

It allows you to understand your efforts and helps you to understand your expectation.

But most importantly, it is about what message do you want to send to your audience.
