Just like every day, I was quite excited to get to work. I was a chef at one of the best restaurants in Mumbai. I was proud and happy about it.

I had enrolled in hospitality management after junior college. Restaurant management and cooking were my majors, which I enjoyed beyond comprehension. I was facing some financial crisis but just after college, I secured a job. It was at the most popular restaurants in Mumbai. I began working there, learning things and thriving into them. Soon, I was promoted to being a chef. How could I just not love it?! After all, I was living my dream life.

But all of it came down crumbling down. That Monday, when I walked in, my manager called me. It was “I need to talk to you” indication and I knew trouble was about to roll in. However, I didn’t know I was going to lose my job.

“The investors are backing off,” he said, “We need to shut this place.”

In the span of two sentences, my whole world spun around.

I would not have a job, which means I would not have money.
